CAVE JOMBLANG DAY TOUR

The Jomblang cave or in Indonesia called Goa Jomblang is a vertical collapse doline type which was formed by the geological process when the soil and all vegetations on it plunged beneath the surface of the earth some thousands of years ago. The collapse created a sinkhole of approximately 50 meters in diameter which became the mouth of the cave. The sinkhole is known to locals as “Luweng”, thus the cave is also known locally as Luweng Jomblang.

The hole drops at least 60 meters down. This sinkhole is probably formed in the distant past as the vegetation here has already formed a forest ecosystem. Most people come to this place specifically to witness this majestic view. Everyone definitely wants their picture taken here, right under those pillars of lights if possible. However, you will not be permitted to climb that rock for conservation reason. You will be helped by one guide here. Most people will be nervous when the first had to jump to that huge sinkhole, but it is perfectly safe. After everyone in your group is gathering, you will be guided through the pitch black Grubug Cave. This horizontal cave is big, but the soil is damp, muddy, and slippery even though there are steppingstones put as a path. Slowly a phenomenal heavenly light comes into view.

Goa jomblang is located in Jetis Wetan Village, Semanu Sub-district, Gunung Kidul Regency, in the Special Province of Yogyakarta, Jomblang Cave is 50Km away from downtown Yogyakarta, or about 10Km from Wonosari, capital town of the Gunungkidul Regency. While it may not be that familiar for common tourists, among cave enthusiasts, nature trekkers and backpackers the cave has gained popularity for its outstanding beauty. In 2011, the cave was further introduced to the world as it made an appearance as one of the sites on the CBS TV reality game show, The Amazing Race.

• 08.30 – 09.30 am Arrive in Jomblang & have morning hot coffee or tea welcomes you. Prepare for adventure tour.
• 09.30 – 13.00 pm Start the mazing adventure activities to the vertical cave of Jomblang
• 13.00 – 14.00 pm Finish caving activity & have local lunch before coming back to hotel.
• 14.00 – 15.30 pm Return to Hotel in Yogyakarta. Tour ends
